At present, Chinese mainland market of painting and calligraphy is composed of the auction houses, antique shops and art galleries, antique cities. The auction house in the country, especially the calligraphy and painting art field transaction volume accounted for 90%. According to the China auction industry association statistic, the number of Chinese mainland auctions has developed from 148 to 399. The time of auction has become from 297 to 863. The piece of cultural relics has changed from 240000 to 640000. The number of transactions turns from 150000 into 300000. The total amount has changed from ￥0.23 billions to ￥0.64 billions. According to incomplete statistics, the turnover of China mainland eight cultural relics and art auction companies accounted for 85%. And Chinese painting and calligraphy art auction accounted for 70% market share.

The market of painting and calligraphy is composed of Chinese ancient calligraphy and painting, Chinese modern painting and calligraphy and Chinese contemporary ink painting. The ancient painting and calligraphy market is the higher cultural connotation and gold content of the plate. Whether auction companies can take China ancient calligraphy and painting directly reflects the level of its business, cultural connotation and artistic level.

Chinese ancient painting and calligraphy auction occupies an important position in the Chinese market of painting and calligraphy, which is determined by its historical value and artistic value. According to statistics, from 2004 to 2014, Chinese ancient calligraphy and painting accounted for the whole calligraphy and painting market 30%, modern painting and calligraphy accounted for 50%, the rest is Chinese contemporary ink painting.
